Why is the name significant?
Your client hasn't decided yet if the product you are selling is tasty, most convenient, most solid. He has no idea whether services provided by you are the best and your company trustworthy on the market. He doesn't know that yet, but you can already appear in his mind, intrigue him and catch his attention. How to do it?

You will find out:

  • What are the functions of a name?
  • Why do you need a good name?
  • What to remember when choosing a name?

At the beginning there was name

Name is often the first information which reach potential consumers. Business-wise it is supposed to sell. It is also one of the most important elements of the image. A good name should encourage, persuade and convince at first sight. It must be something that remains in the mind of customers from the very beginning.

Of course, a good name itself does not guarantee success. Certainly, it may be a strong stimuli to look for information about products / services / companies or directly about the purchase.

Unfortunately, it can also be quite the opposite! Boring, standard, difficult to remember and pronounce, name bringing about negative connotations may contribute to the fact that your potential client will become the real one - of your competitors! How to prevent it?

Rose must smell as sweet

Not everybody appreciates the power of the name. Well, even Shakespeare himself didn't appreciate it when he wrote 'What's in a name? That which we call a rose / By any other name would smell as sweet ...' Imagine, however, that rose scent comes out of baneberry (plant with beautiful white flowers). And now think about Romeo carrying his beloved one a bouquet of fragrant baneberries. Still so romantic?

How to create the perfect name?

When creating the perfect name, you must think about your target group first. It is necessary to analyse it carefully taking into account the needs, interests or the environment in which your potential customers are.

A good name is easy to perceive and carries positive associations with the brand. It must be unique, yet easy to remember, pronounce and repeat.

What else is important?

  • Before you choose the perfect name check the availability of domains in which you can create a website.
  • Make sure that the name does not limit you. Seller of hats called Green Hat after entering new range of clothing, eg. red socks may have difficulty with selling them. Customers will always look for his green hats and they'll go to a different shop for red socks.
  • Check if the chosen name is neutral in foreign languages. If the German manufacturer of bulbs - OSRAM knew he would operate on polish market, perhaps he would get interested in the Polish meaning of the name of his business.
